Stadtkirche (City Church)
The mighty tower of the Stadtkirche overlooks the surrounding timbered houses of the Bad Hersfeld city centre. It lost its original Gothic spire more than 250 years ago in a fire, but with its characteristic Baroque auxiliary roof it has long become the trademark of the city.
The start of construction of the Stadtkirche at around 1300 was a clear sign of the grown self-confidence of the Bad Hersfeld citizens. The building with its three naves and the high church tower were to represent an equal counterpoise to the Stiftsruine.
Church service: Sundays 10 a.m.
Prayer for peace: Fridays 6 p.m.
Brief service: Saturdays 11 a.m.
The Stadtkirche is open daily between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
